What women’s health services are offered?

Dr. Austin offers a wide range of health services for women of all ages, including:

Pap smear

A routine test that checks for abnormalities in cervical cells, the Pap smear test is recommended about every three years. If you have had an abnormal Pap test in the past, you might need more regular screenings.

Breast examination

This simple exam screens for lumps or abnormalities in breast tissue that could indicate cancer. It also monitors for changes in the breasts.

Cancer screenings

Women should also have routine screenings for ovarian and uterine cancer. Dr. Austin performs these right in the office.

Birth control

Discuss your options and choose the best type of birth control that suits your lifestyle, your health, and your plans for the future.

Menopause

Get treatment to cope with the physical and emotional changes associated with menopause, including hot flashes, mood swings, decreased libido, and more.

How often should I get a women’s wellness exam?

Each woman’s medical needs are different. At your initial appointment, Dr. Austin can discuss how often you need to have a women’s health checkup. Generally, it’s a good idea to have this type of exam every year, especially if you’re planning on having children or if you have any underlying conditions that affect your reproductive organs.

What happens at my appointment?

Appointments for women’s health services vary depending on your needs. In most cases, you’ll discuss normal topics that have to do with your health, including any symptoms that specifically relate to your menstrual cycle, fertility, birth control, or other female health needs.

Dr. Austin may complete a full pelvic exam or a Pap smear, or conduct a breast examination. She’ll also take normal measurements like your weight, height, and blood pressure.

If you need follow-up care after your appointment, she refers you to a specialist or helps coordinate other services.

Your women’s health services appointment is your time to talk about any and all female health needs, and Dr. Austin can help you navigate decisions with ease.
